Glamory was founded in 2011 by Sven Bork and Dennis Hoffert and is based in Kaltenkirchen, Germany. Today, both run the company as managing directors. Glamory specialises in tights, stay-ups and stockings in mid and plus sizes, from EU size 40 to 62 (M to 4XL). We asked Sven Bork how this hosiery is made.
Why did Glamory decide to specialise in plus sizes?
“Plus sizes have always been missing from the market. We wanted to close that gap, so we specialised in them right from the start.”
Who is behind Glamory?
“Dennis Hoffert and I are both managing directors. Product development takes place in-house. For production, we work with knitting mills and partner companies in Europe.”
How is a new style created?
“It all starts with serial body measurements. Based on these, we develop the ideas, the cuts and the design in-house. It takes between six and 18 months from the first idea to the finished product.”
What is different about tights for plus sizes?
“They are knitted on special circular knitting machines designed for larger widths. The material composition is matched to this. The brief section, thigh width, waistband length and material are all adapted to the needs of plus sizes. With our men's tights, we also take the differences in anatomy into account.”
How is the fit tested before a style goes on sale?
“Every new style goes through several rounds of prototypes. We hold fittings and have the styles worn by test wearers. Only then does a style go on sale.”
Do the tights fit long legs too?
“That's the question we hear most often. Leg length is no problem: our tights and stockings also fit women with long legs.”
Why does Glamory produce exclusively in Europe?
“We are proud to live in Europe, and our production strengthens the single market. Our partnerships are built for the long term. And European production stands for consistently top quality.”
What's planned next?
“Our products are constantly being developed further. Over the next few months there will be some major innovations, for example the Toeless 20 with a toe strap in the foot and improved fits across all items.”
